This is just my opinion, but if they want to compete with other local coffee shops, they'll need to be competitive with their hours. At this point, there isn't anything that is making this place stand out MORE than Harless and Hugh or Adventure coffee. In fact, due to the hours, I'll probably up at H&H 99% of the time.
Populace is definitely a go to destination I highly recommend starting a conversation with a barista whom would be more than happy to walk you through the varietal coffee at hand along with any upcoming sipping/pouring classes.
The atmosphere of populace is very welcoming modern and open. The location offers enough seating for those looking to have some quiet time, along with a very nice long table up front that serves as a communal area.
CARING OWNER(S)! I received an email from one of the owners who sincerely apologized about a previous incident, and explained that the worker was reprimanded. He also said much more about himself, and the business, which helped me realize that he was pretty upset about what happened. He is a family man, and clearly a hard working self-employed business owner who even takes time to reach out to people. I definitely want to recommend this place, and will be showing my support for them. What a great addition to the downtown the community in Bay City!
Having had the opportunity to do a bit of traveling i have to say that Populace would be in my top 10 cafes to visit.
DISTURBING AND DISRESPECTFUL! If you work at a local business you should appreciate everybody, including a two year old who repeatedly says "hi". I watched the arrogant male worker as my daughter walked up to him. As he wiped down a table she simply said "hi". He just kept wiping the table while looking down. Then she walked closer, and loudly said "HI", and then again but even louder, saying "HIII". He ignored her completely, and rudely. Then the guy looks over at me as if he was offended or something! Seriously! What a jerky way to behave. My little girl was actually hurt, and looked confused when I tried to explain that he was not being a nice person. This left a sad impression on me and her, while visiting this coffee house for the first time. that is no way to treat any person, at any age! The initial pleasant atmosphere in this place quickly became stale after this "anti-child friendly" experience.
Nice comfy place with great coffee. The only knock I have against it are the hours.
The coffee varietals change with the season so don't expect to see the same selections day in and day out. Don't expect to see any gimmicky drinks here Populace is tailored for those who seek a direct relation between farm, roasting facility, and the talented Baristas.
This place is an authentic coffee and tea house. No gimmicks, just genuine coffee and tea. Served in the very best way. The way they serve coffee from real coffee and tea cups brings the experience to feelings and emotions. This has good vibes and good light, will definitely come back and I will make sure to tell everyone to try this place.

Great environment by personable, passionate owners and employees who are always kind and welcoming to their customers. The beans are roasted locally, and formerly having been sold to other cafes in the area, you know you'll get good coffee. It's only been open a few weeks, but their menu stays true to coffee, and the baristas do an incredible job making drinks.
Populace sources and roasts their own coffee which it also sales by the bag.
